Colby Covington was last seen inside the octagon at UFC 245, where he suffered a 5th round TKO defeat against Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight championship. Soon after the fight, Covington called for a rematch, however, the idea was shut down. This was done mostly looking at the already stacked welterweight division, and with big ticket Jorge Masvidal next in line for the title shot. However, looking at the current situation, it’s not likely that Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal will face each other inside the octagon. While Usman blamed Masvidal for asking way too much money, just last week, Masvidal came out with a statement that it was Usman who asked for an absurd amount of money.
While Usman went on to call out Conor McGregor for a title opportunity at the welterweight. Meanwhile, welterweight division went forward with former champion Tyron Woodley against Gilbert Burns at Fight Night: Apex. Burns looked in complete control during the fight, and absolutely dominated the former champion for full five rounds, to get the win. This begs the question, and something fans have been asking as well, does Kamaru Usman fight Gilbert Burns next?
Colby Covington appeared on Submission Radio and answered reflected on the entire situation.
Colby Covington feels Usman vs Burns makes way for him to fight Jorge Masvidal
“I couldn’t care less. Nobody knows who that guy is. Let that fight. If they fight that means the biggest fight in the welterweight division just opened the door, and that’s me versus Street Judas Masvidal. Everybody knows that it’s a real beef, and that score needs to be settled. You know Judas Masvidal, he’s got nowhere to go. We know he ducked Marty Fake Usman, but he’s got no other fights to be made. So the biggest fight that can happen in the welterweight division is the man, me, versus the loser, Street Judas Masvidal.”
Jorge Masvidal has currently no fight under him, and if Colby Covington and Masvidal does pan out, it is certainly going to be one of the biggest fights of the welterweight division. Additionally, it will also put Colby Covington back in the title picture.

Covington also told why he feels Usman vs Masvidal did not pan out. He claimed that Masvidal overpriced himself, and deep down, he knows he can’t beat Kamaru Usman.
“Just like I told you guys months ago, I said that Journeyman Street Judas Masvidal was gonna overprice himself. He thinks that his Broken Mediocre Fighter means something. It’s not worth anything. It’s a Bernie Sanders participation trophy. He overpriced himself. He thought he was worth Conor McGregor money, he was asking for five-ten million for fighting Marty Fake Usman, they didn’t want to give him anywhere even near that.”
What’s next for Covington?
Covington went on to claim that deep down Masvidal knows that he can’t beat Kamaru Usman. He also added that Dan Lambert is also aware about the same. This gives him a brilliant opportunity to either get his rematch against Usman, or fight Jorge Masvidal next.

“So, you know, let’s be honest, Judas is not gonna show up to fight for an average fight pay against a guy he knows he has no chance to beat, so, you know, Journey man is all hype. He is not gonna beat Marty Fake Usman. He knows that deep down inside. Dan Lambert knows that deep down inside. He overpriced himself out like I called from the start. Now is gonna be on the sidelines, now it’s either gonna be me rematch with Marty Fake Usman, or me fighting Street Judas Masvidal.”
