SUMMARY
- Cody Rhodes finished his story as he defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to become the WWE Universal Champion.
- The American Nightmare received a lot of fan support leading up to his Mania 40 showdown against Roman Reigns.
Cody Rhodes is currently at the top of the WWE landscape. After conquering The Tribal Chief at WWE WrestleMania 40, Rhodes awaits his first title defense as champion.
Since WrestleMania 40, The American Nightmare has appeared on three combined episodes of RAW and SmackDown. Unfortunately, his first three outings as champion have been far from entertaining.
There are a number of factors why fans have slowly begun to turn their backs on their beloved babyface. While some are disappointed for silly reasons, like the way Cody holds his title, others have some rightful criticisms about The Dashing One’s reign so far. In this article, let’s look at three reasons why Cody Rhodes is losing the support of the WWE fanbase.
#1. Cody Rhodes’ obsession with The Bloodline
The American Nightmare has been feuding with Roman Reigns’ Bloodline for about two years. While their rivalry does rank amongst the greatest, it is time for Rhodes to move past that feud.
I said the same thing. I Respect Cody with wanting to fulfill his legacy and everything. But his promos just don’t seem too fit the WWE Championship. He’s pausing in between promos it’s like a choke dry Promo. It’s giving hearing Cricket vibes……. This is just my opinion

Fans are excited to see Cody Rhodes engage in intriguing new rivalries as WWE Champion. They are ready to see him butt heads with AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, and Logan Paul, and write a new chapter in his story.
However, Rhodes simply seems to be stuck in the past. His constant mentions of The Bloodline make it difficult for the audience to enjoy his character. It almost seems like the former AEW EVP is more focused on the story that played out between him and The Rock than his responsibilities as a champion.
If The American Nightmare refuses to part ways with The Bloodline story, his fan following might not last.
#2. Lack of interesting material in Cody Rhodes’ promos
Another aspect of Cody’s reign that has garnered criticism is his monotonous promos as a titleholder. Apart from his overused catchphrases, Rhodes’ recent promos are filled with references to his finished story.
Man, I ain’t gonna lie…
He’s been on three shows right now after winning the Undisputed Championship, and all his promos feel the same.

While he surely deserves to relish his victory against the odds, Cody must realize that he is no longer the underdog he once was. Fans have already begun to turn on The American Nightmare for constantly bringing up his father in his promos as well.
His last three appearances have been amongst the most boring parts of WWE television. Neither has Cody given a roadmap of his title Reigns, nor has he said anything of intrigue. For someone whose popularity is majorly due to his amazing character work, The American Nightmare’s recent promos have surely let down a lot of people.
#3. Cody Rhodes’ fall in AEW raises similar doubts among WWE fans
Before his historic WWE return, Cody Rhodes was a significant figure in All Elite Wrestling. The American Nightmare enjoyed much success during the initial few months of the company’s inception, having been accepted as a certified fan favorite.
However, things soon went south for Dusty Rhodes’ younger son. Owing to some questionable booking decisions, Cody lost his popularity as a baby face. A string of disappointing feuds followed, which made fans grow tired of Rhodes’ heroic character.
They visibly showed resistance to his baby face act, something Cody could face soon in the WWE as well. The hardcore fans still reminisce about how frustrating Cody Rhodes had become as a good guy in AEW. He was constantly being booked as a superman, often burying other deserving talents to make himself look good.
Roman called the fans turning on Cody a long time ago.

Considering his recent performances, Rhodes might be on the verge of falling into the same pit again. If Rhodes doesn’t tweak the content of his character soon, WWE might be compelled to cut his reign short.
