Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev has been in some great form a lot lately. In the previous year, he performed brilliantly and thus bagged the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Not only this, but he also won 6 ATP titles in a year. This clearly showed his form. The German player had the best start to his 2022 year. He is currently playing with his national team in the ATP Cup in Australia. In the first match, the German team faced off against Great Britain. Zverev faced off against Cameron Norrie.

The German player won his match against the British player. In the first set, the German player took some effort to get past his opponent but he came back stronger in the second set. The match ended 7-6, 6-1 to win the match.

In the second match though, the German player played spectacularly and won the match. From the first set, the German player started to pressurize the American player. He did not give him enough opportunities and won the first set 6-4. In the second set as well, the same story was repeated and thus he won the match 6-4, 6-4.

Before the world no. 3 player match, Jan-Lennard Struff gave Germany a 1-0 lead after he defeated the American John Isner 7-6(7), 4-6, 7-5. The German player stared down 34 aces against the American player. Hence a win from Zverev ensured that the German squad was guaranteed points.

Alexander Zverev needs six match points, but plays another solid match this week to beat Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4.

Germany d. USA and stays alive in the ATP Cup (just like the US) till the Thursday, when they face Canada. This group is very interesting.

In their respective group, all the teams could be locked at 1-1 each if only Canada manages to defeat Great Britain later on during the day. This would thus ensure us a thrilling battle to enter into the semi-finals in Group C. It will not be interesting to see how the German team will play against a strong Canadian side.

Only one team among the four will be able to progress further. The tournament format suggests that among the 4 groups that are playing, the top team from each group will be ensured a ticket in the semi-finals of the tournament.

The semi-finals will be played over 2 days that is o  the 7th and 8th of January. The final will then take place on the 9th and finally, we will observe a winner.
