We finally have the much-anticipated rematch between Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington set to go down in the main event of UFC 268. If reports are to be believed the title rematch is set to take place inside Madison Square Garden.
Colby Covington has been eyeing a rematch with Kamaru Usman for quite some time now, and now that it’s finally happening, Covington reveals in a conversation with Submission Radio how the welterweight champion did everything he could to avoid him.
“You’ve seen him begging for Nate Diaz. The guy is a lightweight jobber, the guy is a Stockton soy-boy. He is not even a 500-level fighter. The guy hasn’t won a fight in six years, the guy is not even relevant.”
“He’s just begging to fight that guy, and get an easy paycheck and do anything to avoid me and not rematch. He knows the first time we fight, he got lucky.” Covington said.
Earlier, Kamaru Usman had responded to Nate Diaz showing interest in fighting the welterweight champion. However, it’s safe to say that the match-up was never going to see the light of the day considering Diaz has not won a fight in the welterweight division, with his last win coming against Anthony Pettis in 2019.
Additionally, with fighters like Leon Edwards and now, Gilbert Burns just waiting to get their hands at Kamaru Usman yet again, the welterweight division despite its comparative inactivity, looks completely stacked right now.
Colby Covington calls out Kamaru Usman ahead of UFC 268
The hugely anticipated rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington is set to get the attention of fight fans around the world. Kamaru Usman has been on an absolute run, knocking out the likes of Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal in back-to-back showings in defense for the UFC’s welterweight championship.
Meanwhile, Covington is coming off a stoppage win over Tyron Woodley and will look to continue the same momentum going against Kamaru Usman. I twon;t be wrong to say that, looking at the dominance of Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington looked to be the only fighter who gave a challenge to the Nigerian Nightmare. Needless to say, many dispute the conclusion of the fight, and everything will be answered in the rematch at UFC 268.
