While Muhammad was getting treated in the hospital expecting to hear that the UFC will run it back, Leon Edwards had something else in mind when he walked out to attend the post-fight press conference. Edwards stated that he has no interest in fighting Belal Muhammad in a rematch and is looking at a potential title fight against Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight championship. Now, Muhammad in an interview given to TMZ has ripped apart Edwards for his comments. Here’s what he said.
“It’s more about not getting a full fight. That’s what is pi****g me for real. I didn’t even get the chance to get started.” Muhammad continued, “I wanted to put on a show, it was my first spotlight, it was just taken away from me.”
“My message to him is if you are the man, take the rematch. I literally picked this fight on three weeks’ notice.” Muhammad added that Edwards doesn’t have a win to his name in over 600 days and doesn’t deserve to fight for the title.
Never saw someone act so tough after poking someone in the eye the fight was just getting goin and if your satisfied to end it on that note your soft you ain’t getting a title fight off that I took the fight on 3 week notice and came to fight run it back @ufc

“You didn’t win anything. Okay, you had a 10-9 first round, is that what you are saying you won with. I didn’t even get warmed up yet, this is a five-round fight buddy. If you are just happy about that one round, that just shows how pathetic and weak-minded you are.”
When Belal Muhammad accepted to fight Leon Edwards on short notice, he wasn’t expecting it to end the way it did when both the fighters shared the Octagon in the main event of UFC Vegas 21. In what was Muhammad’s first UFC main-event, the rising contender lost out on a huge opportunity to make a name for himself as the fight was called a no-contest after a nasty eye poke rendered Muhammad unable to continue.
Belal Muhammad regrets not getting a full fight against Leon Edwards
Muhammad also claimed that Leon Edwards needs to respect him as a mixed martial artist and give him his rematch considering he stepped up to fight him when no other fighter did. It’s hard not to agree with Muhammad. After Edwards’ fight with Khamzat Chimaev was called off, Edwards was left without an opponent. It was at this time that Belal Muhammad decided to step up despite having fought just last month in a war against Dhiego Lima.

Leon Edwards has maintained that he wants to fight for the title next and it remains to be seen what lies ahead for Belal Muhammad. With Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal as the frontrunners for the championship belt, it looks unlikely that Edwards will get a title opportunity.
