Bob Arum had earlier stated that he is least bothered by the result of the arbitration case in the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder trilogy clause dispute. However, following the verdict, it looks like that isn’t the case with Wilder potentially becoming a hurdle for the hugely anticipated and the recently announced Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury showdown for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has stated that they won’t be paying Deontay Wilder a “step aside fee” in order to ensure the undisputed heavyweight match-up between Fury and Joshua. Arum revealed that they already had a plan B should the case doesn’t go in their favor, and had already booked the Allegiant Stadium for the trilogy bout between Fury and Wilder.
Arum said that he would rather have Fury beat Wilder in the trilogy bout and face Anthony Joshua in November-December than pay Wilder to step aside. Needless to say, paying Wilder to step aside would create a lot of problems considering Fury and Joshua have signed a two-fight deal.
When is Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder?
The verdict ruled that Tyson Fury meet Deontay Wilder inside the ring before September 15. Needless to say, the recently announced bout between Joshua and Fury for August 14 is in serious doubt considering the recent advancement in the Fury-Wilder situation.
While Eddie Hearn has shown confidence to pull something to ensure the bout goes down, he also revealed that Anthony Joshua wants Fury next. Joshua could potentially face former cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who is coming off an incredible unanimous decision win against Derek Chisora in his heavyweight debut.
