Amanda Serrano has etched her name as one of the best female boxers to have graced the sport. Not only is she an accomplished boxer, mixed martial artist, and wrestler, but she is also one of the most decorated female athletes. As such, let’s find out everything there is to know about ‘The Real Deal’.
For those unaware, Amanda (44-2-1) is the undisputed women’s featherweight champion of the world. Not only that, but she has also won world titles in more than four weight classes. Notably, Serrano also holds the Guinness world record for winning the most number of world boxing championships in different weight classes by a female athlete. During her time as a professional boxer, the 34-year-old has won 9 major titles over 7 different weight classes.
Additionally, Serrano has previously been awarded the Female Boxer of the Year Award twice, in 2016 and 2018. The honors were presented by the WBO, which also granted her the first-ever “Super World Championship” award to a woman. Whilst her accomplishments are well known, little is known about her sister, family, and nationality. Let’s take a look
Amanda Serrano nationality
On October 9, 1988, Amanda was born in Carolina, a city and municipality on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico. When she was still quite young, Amanda and her family moved to New York. Here, they settled in with the already-present Puerto Rican population. Thus, despite being away from her homeland, she was still close to her Puerto Rican heritage.
As part of the Nuyorican community, Amanda was brought up in Brooklyn. Here, she began imbibing the traditions and norms of her Puerto Rican culture, which is seen through her dialect and way of speaking. After graduating from Bushwick High School at 17, Serrano began her journey in boxing in the unlikeliest of ways. With the aid and guidance of her sister’s husband, Jordan Maldonado, Amanda enjoyed a successful but brief amateur career. Then, in 2009, Amanda began her fairytale journey in professional boxing.
Amanda Serrano’s sister and family
Previously, one of Amanda’s claims to fame was that she was a Serrano sister. As it turns out, her elder sister Cindy, made quite a name for herself, having held the WBO female featherweight title from 2016 to 2017. Further, Cindy also challenged for various other titles in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. Most importantly, Cindy was the inspiration for her younger sister Amanda to take up boxing.
According to a young Amanda, training, and boxing with her sister allowed them to buy things for themselves and bond together. However, seeing her talent and initial success, Cindy further encouraged Amanda to fight and continue the Serrano legacy. Unfortunately, very little is known about Amanda and Cindy’s parents, as they have decided to keep that information out of the public eye.

However, what is known is that Amanda’s father was very supportive of her taking up boxing after her sister. Whilst her mother was initially hesitant and protective of her younger daughter, she eventually saw her daughter’s talent. As such, her mother believed that with Amanda’s success, Cindy could finally retire, after giving birth to her second child. Thus, despite Cindy (now 41) retiring in 2018, the Serrano name is still a prevalent one in women’s boxing.
