Well, it came from his father who was a great chess player himself. Andrew saw his father, Emory Tate, play chess at a high level since his infancy.
So, the question arises, was Emory Tate a grandmaster in chess? For fans who are unaware, the grandmaster is the highest rank that a chess player can attain. International Chess Federation (FIDE) gives a chess player the “grandmaster” rank and it is for life. As for Emory Tate, he did not reach the rank of a grandmaster. According to a report from Chess.com, Emory was an “international master.”
International master is just the rank below grandmaster. However, Tate certainly had a great career as a chess player. He won the Armed Forces Chess Championship 5 times and the Indiana State Championship 6 times. Aside from chess, Emory Tate also led a very interesting life too.
Emory Tate worked for the American intelligence
Andrew Tate shared a very affectionate relationship with his father Emory Tate. The social media influencer revealed a lot about his father’s life in the past. He spoke about how his parents met and why his father served in American intelligence. Emory’s smartness and fluency in several languages earned in a job with the American government and that is when he met his wife Eileen Ashleigh.
“My dad is American and my mum is British. My dad was based in the UK for the air force. He was actually in the intelligence services, he was a spy. And, nowadays if the American government needs someone to translate they can hire a Russian who speaks English.”
“In the 80s, that was obviously off-limits. So they’d take Americans and teach them Russian. So they taught him Russian and he was based in the UK, where he met my mum. (One of the) top-ranked chess players in the world. He was a very very smart guy.”
Aside from Andrew, Emory Tate had two other children as well. His children are Andrew Tate, Tristan Tate, and Janine Tate. However, he spent the majority of his life away from his children as Eileen moved back to London after the couple got separated.
