Haney vs Loma: Fight Breakdown
For the most part, ‘The Dream’ is a clear and obvious favorite coming into this one. Not only does he have age on his side, but he is also the bigger fighter and has a massive height and reach advantage over his opponent. In the lead-up to the fight, Haney has often pointed out the same and stated that he’s going to impose his will over Lomachenko on Saturday night.
On the other hand, Lomachenko is arguably one of the best boxers of his time and is currently #7 in The Ring’s P4P rankings. However, at 35 years old, the Ukrainian clearly does not possess the same movement and speed as he did in his hay days. Previously, Loma suffered a shock upset loss against Teofimo Lopez, losing his titles in the process. Following that, he also had to take time off from boxing in order to fight for his country against the Russian invasion.
In recent times, Lomachenko has looked good inside the ring but has a habit of starting off too slow. Mostly, Loma relies on analyzing his opponents in the early rounds and his second wind to win fights. As such, this nearly cost him the fight against Jamaine Ortiz, a mistake he cannot repeat against Haney. Coming into fight week though, Loma seems calm, composed, and almost as though he has something special cooked up for this fight.
On the other hand, many have accused Devin of being too emotional in their engagements thus far. Moreover, during their final weigh-in face-off, Haney surprisingly decided to push Lomachenko before storming off the stage.
Thus, many have wondered whether it could be a factor come fight night. When it comes to Haney, jab is key and he will likely set his game plan around it. Whether Loma can produce a huge upset and do the unthinkable remains to be seen, but there are many who will be hoping for it.
