Tyson Fury defended his WBC heavyweight champion against Deontay Wilder in an iconic trilogy bout. The fight had the boxing fans on the edge of their seats the entire time.
Tyson Fury won the fight by a 11th Round KO but he was on the verge of losing his title in round 4. Wilder knocked down Fury twice in the fourth round and made the fans believe that they have made a mistake by counting out the Bronze Bomber.
However, Fury persevered and won the rest of the fight in a dominant fashion. Though Wilder showed insane heart and had some moments in the later rounds that were not enough.
Following the fight, Wilder said that the weight difference between him and Fury was a big factor in the outcome of the fight. He stated that Fury’s game plan was to lean on him and exhaust him.
And it seems Deontay Wilder is not the only one who thinks the weight advantage helped Tyson Fury immensely. UFC superstar Conor McGregor shared his thoughts on the trilogy and stated:
“Great fight that. Both warriors, both winners. Hard to not be impressed with Deontay there. Against the much larger man and almost got it done. Great fight. 40lb’s in weight difference is A LOT. Fair play both men there, very enjoyable fights they have had together. Respect.”
Conor McGregor praised Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury
Conor McGregor also praised Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury for putting on an incredible fight for the fans. He also took a dig at Dustin Poirier for celebrating after winning their trilogy fight at UFC 264 via a doctor’s stoppage.
“Their skill levels are unique but very close. A great heavyweight trilogy that was. I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing. Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.”
Deontay Wilder put on an incredible fight and he proved that he can arguably beat every other top heavyweight. However, Wilder needs to take some time off before he jumps into the ring again.
The Bronze Bomber took a lot of punishment in the trilogy, which can change the entire trajectory of someone’s career. But the fans will certainly wait for the comeback for Wilder after an insane outing against Fury in the trilogy.
