Brittney Griner is a famous WNBA legend and she has been a topic of debate among the fan base for quite some time. In February 2022, Griner was arrested in Russia for being in possession of hashish oil, a marijuana concentrate. She spent about 9 months in Russian prison for her offense and the whole sporting world was up in arms for her release.

Ultimately, she was let go from Russian custody on December 8, in exchange for Viktor Bout, who was spending time in US prison for arms dealing charges. Bout is a notorious criminal, who even had a movie made about him, titled “Lord of War” in 2005. At the time, the move made headlines throughout the world, and fans criticized President Joe Biden for accepting the swap deal. Amongst Biden’s critics, was the former kickboxer Andrew Tate.

Andrew Tate makes a shocking statement on Brittney Griner being released

Andrew Tate is not only a 4-time kickboxing champion, but he is also a controversial male role model. As a result of his misogynistic comments and controversial statements about society, Tate rose to infamy in 2022 and became one of the most searched men on the planet. Hence, what he had to say about the authorities releasing Viktor Bout to bring Griner back, did not surprise anyone.

After Griner was released, Tate had an interview in December 2022. During the interview, Tate called out the hypocrisy of the government for not negotiating a release for Paul Whelan instead of Griner. Whelan, a United States Marine, was arrested in Russia in 2018 and was subsequently sentenced to a prison term of 16 years. Tate was flabbergasted that the authorities wanted to bring back Griner, instead of Whelan.

Tate added, “You know what the worst thing about it is? There’s an American Marine, who has been accused of spying. What’s his name? Paul Whelan… Who’s in a Russian jail right now. They haven’t swapped the lord of war for the American spy. No, they swapped the lord of war for a basketball player and they left this spy to rot… They left him to rot in a gulag, you know why? Because he is a straight white male.” (h/t via TheTopGPill)

Ironically, Tate himself was arrested later that month. The Romanian police took Andrew and his brother into custody on December 29, 2022. DIICOT investigated Tate for r*pe, human trafficking, and organized crime. As a direct result of the investigation, Andrew had to spend an obscene 92 days in prison. He claimed that the matrix was trying to cancel him for trying to reveal the truth.

However, after many turns and twists, the Romanian court granted Andrew his release from prison and placed him under house arrest. But the investigation is still going on and it will be interesting to see if the authorities can gather enough evidence to convict the Top G, or if the case gets dismissed.
