On June 11, 2023, two men with famous last names locked horns in the squared ring. Fans and supporters came out in droves to watch the legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather take on John Gotti III. Unlike his previous boxing exhibitions, all eyes were on his opponent given the latter’s intriguing background.
John Gotti III, who reportedly grew up idolizing Floyd Mayweather, forged a career in MMA at first. Soon after, the 30-year-old tried his luck in boxing, winning 1 out of his 2 bouts via KO. Tonight, fans were more interested in Gotti III’s background than his in-ring accolades.

Gotti III is the grandson of John Gotti, one of the most notorious American Gangsters of all time. He led the infamous Gambino crime family in New York back in the day. This fact brought more eyeballs to tonight’s boxing exhibition fight.
In the end, the fight didn’t matter because everyone inside the FLA Live Arena took matters into their own hands, literally. The 50-0 boxer faced off with Gotti for 6 out of their scheduled 8 rounds. And an exhibition that it was, ‘Money‘ played with Gotti all night. Without having a mouthguard and keeping his hands down, Floyd put on the type of performances we are used to seeing during his exhibitions.

However, upon being disqualified in the 6th round, Gotti III charged toward Mayweather. Soon after, members from both their entourage got involved, leading to a now-viral chaotic scene right inside the squared circle. Officials moved both John and Floyd backstage before things got out of hand.
However, apparently, it was too late. Because for several minutes, there seemed to be more mayhem outside the ring than in the actual exhibition. As per newly obtained footage, fans caught camps of both sides attacking each other not only in the ring but outside as well.

According to the above clip, a muscular man, presumably from The Money Team appears to be charging an alleged Gotti III team member. However, the tables would turn for the former as the same man went to return the favor, this time joined by another individual. The clip shows the alleged member of Floyd’s team getting punished before being sent backstage.
It is still unclear whether the two belonged to Team Floyd and Team Gotti. However, what prevailed in the ring only seems to substantiate the above speculation.

For fans unaware, John Gotti was one of the most notorious mob bosses of all time. Reports claim he ordered brutal hits and got his hands dirty on a regular. He later died in 2002. Three decades on from his final conviction, his grandson fought one of the best boxers of all time tonight in Florida.
While the chaos didn’t seem to stop inside the ring, it only led to more outbreaks outside and around the arena. Naturally, fans started dissing the alleged members of the opposing team they were rooting for tonight.

Due to their famous last names, the bout earlier was given a tagline of “Last names matter.” If cooler heads prevail, fans might perhaps see a rematch between the two men. It is noteworthy though that Floyd hasn’t ever fought the same person twice in an exhibition. Mayweather last fought professionally against Conor McGregor in August 2017.
