Making his comeback in the ring after two years, Canelo Alvarez, 33, showed boxing fans on Saturday why he still ranks among the best in the business. In the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view night from T-Mobile Arena, Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) methodically outboxed a hesitant and overmatched Jermell Charlo en route to a wide unanimous decision.
The legendary Mexican boxer won by scores of 119-108 and 118-109 (twice) to successfully defend his undisputed super middleweight title. Jermell Charlo was unable to move past first gear. He was unable to bother or slow down Alvarez with his power shots in the second half of the fight since his jab was nonexistent for the majority of it.
According to CompuBox, Alvarez outlanded Charlo by a score of 134 to 71. In total, he connected with 35% of his punches, and 40% of them were power punches, with a body shot edge of 42 to 11. While Charlo went into this fight as the underdog, he was still the undisputed super-welterweight champion.
Jermell Charlo on his defeat to Canelo Alvarez: “I feel like it wasn’t me in there, I don’t make excuses. You win some, you lose some. I’m undisputed in my weight, I was daring to be great. I’m proud of myself, he didn’t knock me out, he knocked all the other guys out.”

“I feel like it wasn’t me in there; I don’t make excuses. You win some, you lose some. I’m undisputed in my weight; I was daring to be great,” said Charlo after the fight.
However, to his surprise, the moment his bout with Alvarez started, he was stripped of the WBO super-welterweight title. This is because, coming after a long hiatus due to an injury, Charlo was expected to fight Australia’s Tim Tszyu, who was the mandatory challenger. Nevertheless, he chose to move two weight classes up for an undisputed vs. undisputed fight against Alvarez.
So, now, Tim Tszyu has been made the WBO super-welterweight world champion. He was the interim champion previously.
Jermell Charlo wants to fight Terence Crawford next
After fighting Canelo Alvarez, Jermell has now called out the undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford and wants to fight him next. “I want to fight Terence Crawford; f*ck that. I could fight Terence Crawford in my weight division,” said Jermell Charlo. While he certainly looks interested in another big money fight, ‘Bud’ has bashed him after his disappointing performance against the Mexican champion.
“Jermell Charlo, you went out sad,” Crawford tweeted after the fight. He also wrote that Charlo did not even try to win the fight. He just aimed to survive throughout the boxing match. Crawford also feels that Jermell Charlo should be ashamed of himself.
Congratulations @Canelo you made the so called lion look like a baby cub.

He further added that after watching Alvarez beat up Jermell in their fight, he is no longer interested in fighting the latter. Terence Crawford became the undisputed champion in the 147-pound category by defeating Errol Spence Jr. earlier this year.
