Movies on combat sports are more often than not very special. There are movies like “Raging Bull,” “The Fighter,” and “Southpaw” that deal with the various ups and downs of a boxer’s life. However, the most famous boxing movie franchise is “Rocky.” The role has earned Sylvester Stallone the only Oscar nominations of his life. The franchise is back on the big screen with “Creed 3” this weekend.
“Creed” is a spinoff of the Rocky franchise that primarily focuses on the character of “Adonis Creed.” Adonis is the son of Apollo Creed. Carl Weathers played the character of “Apollo Creed” in the original Rocky movies. Michael B. Jordan of “Black Panther” fame plays the titular character, Adonis Creed. This is his third foray as the character. Although Stallone had a role in the first two movies, he is not expected to return for the third installment.
Not just in front of the screens, there are also changes behind the scenes as well. Aside from starring in the movie, Michael B. Jordan has also directed the movie. Tessa Thompson will also return as “Bianca Creed,” Adnis’ wife. As for the new additions, Jonathan Majors will join the franchise as the antagonist of the third movie. But which are the famous boxing names that are part of the film? Let’s find out.
Which famous boxers are set to appear in Creed 3?
The Rocky franchise has always featured major pop-culture icons in the movies. Hulk Hogan appeared in “Rocky III” as the character “Thunderlips.” Mr. T was also a part of the third Rocky movie and he played the famous villain “Clubber Lang.” Although the Creed franchise has shied away from featuring big stars, some major boxing personalities are expected to appear in the third movie.
The most famous boxer in the movie is surely going to be Canelo Alvarez. Michael B. Jordan took to Instagram to announce that Canelo is going to have a cameo role in the flick. Florian Munteanu is also in the movie as “Viktor Drago,” Ivan Drago’s son. Although Florian is a self-proclaimed boxer, there is no information on his boxing record.
Former British boxer, Tony Bellew will come back as his “Ricky Conlan.” Bellew also had a role in the first Creed film. Welterweight champ Terence Crawford is also set to have a role in the movie as “Lorenzo ‘Nightmare’ Jones.”
As per IMDb, Female boxer Jessica McCaskill and broadcasters Todd Grisham, Stephen A. Smith, Mauro Ranallo, and David Diamante are set to appear in the movie as well.
