Terence Crawford remained the WBO welterweight champion as he knocked out David Avanesyan in the sixth round to take his professional boxing record to 39-0 earlier this month in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

In a sold-out arena inside CHI Health Center, Crawford put on another clinical performance to further cement his legacy as one of the greatest boxers in modern history. Testing free agency for the first time since parting ways with Top Rank, Crawford partnered with BLK Prime in a one-fight deal for the Avanesyan fight.

However, the event failed to rise to expectations with a very little buzz on social media. According to reports, even the PPV numbers aren’t showing huge success.
How many PPV buys for Terence Crawford vs David Avanesyan?
According to a statement released by BLK Prime, the PPV buys for Terence Crawford vs David Avanesyan were better than expected. “Early reports indicate that buys for the sold-out event exceeded initial projections on BLK Prime digital. This further solidifies BLK Prime’s position as the newest and best destination for high-quality boxing content.” BLK Prime representative said.
Now, one begs to question, how much are “initial projections” because as far as the amount of money that went into Crawford’s pocket as a fight purse of $10 million is concerned, the event needed to do at least 250,000 buys to break even. This does not include the fight purse of other boxers and the cost of marketing and event among other things.
#DidYouKnow — The last time @terencecrawford went the distance was in 2016. Last night was his 10th consecutive KO win. 𝐏𝟒𝐏 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 👑 #blkprime#newera#neweraofboxing pic.twitter.com/8gnmNwwCv2

Moreoever, BLK Prime was the only sponsor of the fight. Interestingly enough, Crawford’s last fight against Shawn Porter did a reported 135,000 PPV buys. Priced at $39.00, it’s hard to imagine Crawford vs Avanesyan doing more than that. And if that’s the case, it’s a huge loss for WBO welterweight champion.
Amidst all this, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom feels Crawford vs Avanesyan won’t even crack 10,00 PPV buys. While boxing fans are of the opinion that the event will only do in the range of 50,000 PPV buys at best. What are your thoughts? Do let us know in the comments section.
