Canelo Alvarez is called the pound for pound number 1 in the world for a reason and he just solidified his position by beating Billy Joe Saunders.
Canelo Alvarez took on the former WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders in a historic fight at the AT & T stadium. Infront pf a record attendance of over 73,000, Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders went to war for 8 rounds before Saunders was unable to answer the bell.
Alvarez damaged the right eye of Saunders badly with a right uppercut at the end of round 8. Canelo Alvarez opened up on his win over Saunders and said that he did not expect the fight to be this easy. With no disrespect towards his opponent, Billy Joe Saunders, Canelo Alvarez credited his hard work in the training camp for his brilliant performance. Alvarez also reacted to Saunder not answering the bell after round 8 and said:
“I knew it. The truth is I knew it. I think I broke his chin. And I knew he wasn’t gonna come out. And I get to the corner that he wasn’t gonna come out.”
As per Eddie Hear, Billy Joe Saunders has a broken eye socket after that uppercut from Alvarez. But, it’s insane that commentators and some fans were criticizing Saunders for calling the fight off after such a devastating injury.
Canelo Alvarez wants Caleb Plant next
With this win, the Mexican sensation added one more title to his resume. And he is only one more win away to become the undisputed super middleweight champion. However, he will need to beat the IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant in order to do that. Alvarez sent a message to Caleb Plant after the fight and said: “There is a plan to go for the belt. I’m coming, my friend.”
Canelo Alvarez has been an unstoppable force ever since his loss to Floyd Mayweather. He is moving up the weight classes and taking on bigger and tougher opponents. However, he is just levels above his competition. And that’s what he proves time and time again every time he enters the ring.
