A few days back Manny Pacquiao took on Yordenis Ugas in a highly anticipated boxing clash for the WBA world welterweight title. Many fans had expected Pacquiao to come out strong and dominate the fight and win the belt against Ugas. However, things turned out to be the opposite as Yordenis Ugas displayed a clinic and retained his belt via unanimous decision.
After the fight, the Filipino indicated in an interview that he could not move swiftly during the fight as he suffered a cramp in the second round. Similarly, Pac-Man has made an unexpected revelation in his interview with The Athletic.
“In my entire career, Ugas was one of the easiest opponents,” Pacquiao told The Athletic in an interview at the dinner table of one of his Los Angeles homes. “(Ugas) only had one style, and I should’ve been able to easily move away … you’ve seen how I have moved in my fights before. I couldn’t move in this fight. My legs just … stopped.”
In the end, despite Pacquiao’s claims, Yordenis Ugas would have still been a tough opponent. Owing to the fact, that the Cuban boxer used his reach advantage very wisely. Therefore even if Manny was completely fit it would not be easy for the Philippine boxer to reach the pockets and dominate the fight.
Will Manny Pacquiao retire after suffering a tough defeat against Yordenis Ugas?
Manny Pacquiao had hinted before his fight against Ugas that this could be his last professional boxing fight. After losing the fight, a question about his retirement was put forward by the interviewer. At that time the Filipino was unsure about his future. And now it looks as if Pac-Man wants to get vengeance for his defeat against Ugas.
Owing to the fact, he has mentioned in an interview with The Athletic that he has no plans of retiring and wants a rematch for the WBA welterweight belt against the Cuban boxer. After this statement it will be interesting if a rematch between these two elite fighters take place. In the end, fans will be very happy to know that Pac-Man is ready to step in the ring once again.
