We are but a few days removed from one of the biggest boxing fights of the year. Ryan Garcia takes on Gervonta Davis in what is sure to be one of the most entertaining fights ever. However, there is cause for concern ahead of the fight for Garcia.
Previously, we saw Garcia and Davis agree to a bet, putting their entire fight purse on the line. Whilst Garcia confidently bet his reported $2.5 million purse immediately, the deal is yet to be official. However, there are more worrying concerns for Ryan, especially if there is a spy in his camp as Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has suggested.
Speaking about the rumored spy, “King Ry” remains confident in his ability to deal with Davis. “I don’t care what he says. He can’t stop what’s already going to happen. You can send in all the spies and Judists that you can send out. It won’t stop what’s going to happen”. Moreover, Garcia also responded to Conor McGregor’s comments on the bet he and Davis made as well.
“I respect what he (Conor) said, but I’m a man of my word. If they want to do it, let’s do it”. Despite all the talk, hype, and anticipation around the fight, it appears Ryan is not fazed. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the talk of a spy truly affects his and Davis’ performance come fight night.
Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis’ relationship
Coming into this fight, there has been a lot of support for “Tank”, with many believing that he is truly the better boxer. Moreover, with the added edge of knowing everything inside Garcia’s camp, there is no doubt that many will favor Gervonta. Notably, Floyd Mayweather has also backed him to brutally knock out Garcia.
Speaking to FightHype, Mayweather said, “Just know, when he (Davis) hit that boy, he (Garcia) ain’t gonna wake up until next year”. Thus, it appears as though Floyd and Leonard Ellerbe are confident that Davis will get the job done against Ryan in a dominant fashion. According to Ellerbe, “This is the art of war,” and he is aware of everything that Garcia and Co. have been working on and who their sparring partners are.
For those unaware, Gervonta Davis had a close working relationship with Floyd Mayweather. Recently, the two crossed paths again at the David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant fight and greeted each other quite amicably. Floyd had taken Davis under his wing from the start of his career. However, despite their seemingly perfect relationship, Davis chose to change promoters ahead of his fight against Hector Luis Garcia earlier this year. According to sources, Davis the terms of his contract with Mayweather Promotions.
Despite the two parting ways, Davis remains nothing but thankful to Floyd for his support. Thus, Floyd is also supportive of his protege and has wished him the best in the future and for this fight. However, whilst the two are not working together right now, neither party has closed the door to working together again after the Ryan Garcia fight.
