Covid-19 has given another shock to the fighting world. The trilogy bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder is about to be postponed. All that is because there has been a Covid-19 outbreak in Tyson’s camp. Earlier in Feb 2020, Fury produced one of heavyweight boxing’s finest ever performances to destroy Wilder and become a world champion once again. July 24 was Wilder’s chance to take his revenge and get that title back. But, the Coronavirus has put in a delay in the bout.
Currently, there is no official statement made on whether the fight will proceed as planned. However, a Top Rank official stated that
“We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team, and the status of the event has not changed to date,”
Fury first met Wilder in December 2018. Surprisingly, even after getting knocked out twice, Fury managed to take a draw from the judges.
It is to be mentioned that since their last fight in Feb 2020 both the fighters haven’t fought a single fight. According to the contract Fury had to fight Wilder for a third fight. However, the Covid-19 situation didn’t allow that to happen.
When can Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 be rescheduled?
Now, Top Rank was unable to give a date to both fighters before the end of 2020. So, Fury( 32) and his team proceeded to negotiate with Anthony Joshua for a 5 belt title bout. They even released the date of Aug 14 for the fight in Saudi Arabia.
However, Tyson, believing that the contract has ended with Wilder, didn’t term it legal. After a lot of hurdles and legal issues finally, the fight was scheduled for July 24th.
As the fight is linked with Fox and they have booked Manny Pacquiao-Errol Spence Jr. PPV on Aug. 21, it is possible that Fury vs Wilder 3 will be scheduled in September 2021.
When Anthony Joshua was recently asked about whom he would like to face between the two. He revealed that it doesn’t matter for him. But, now it seems like both Anthony and Wilder will have to wait a little longer for their fight.
