Josh Taylor edged past Jack Catterall to retain his undisputed light-welterweight gold in Scotland in his first title defense as the undisputed champion of the world. However, fans sound off on the result, calling it one of the worst judgings in the history of the game in recent times.
Jack Catterall put up a great performance against a credible opponent in the form of Josh Taylor. However, he narrowly missed out, in what many believe to be a horrific scoring error. Meanwhile, Taylor has said that this was his last fight at the 140-pound division, and he will look to move up a weight class. Taylor also stated that he doesn’t see the need of a rematch, and felt that he won the bout.
Did Jack Catterall win the fight against Josh Taylor?
According to the unofficial scorecard, Taylor has 255 total punches thrown compared to Catterall’s 357 punches. Catterall landed 166 punches, while Taylor could only connect 85 punches, with a success rate of 33% compared to a staggering 46% for Catterall.
Boxing just embarrassed itself.

The fans are calling it one of the biggest robberies of all time. While most of the boxing world seem to think Jack Catterall won the bout, renowned boxing coach Teddy Atlas had made a case that Catterall taking his foot off the pedal could have a lot to do with how the result came out, the way it came out.

There’s only three people who thought Taylor won that… the two corrupt judges and Taylor himself.
This needs to be looked into – there’s no way 99.99999% of us can all be wrong.
Corrupt. Disgusting. Awful.#BOXXER #TaylorCatterall

Catterall stormed off the arena as soon as the results were outside, evidently upset at the poor scoring. He was able to rock Taylor, and stun him, in what looked like a comfortable win for Catterall, however, when the judges’ decisions were annoucned, it took the entire boxing world by surprise. With the victory, Taylor picks up his 19th straight win. Taylor was dropped in the eight-round, after being dominated for the better part of the entire bout. While one can argue the last three rounds could have gone in the favour of Taylor, Catterall’s dominance since the beginning was on full display inside OVO Hydro here in Scotland.
