On August 4, 2023, O’Pray, aged 22, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years for the murder of Burton. O’Pray’s conviction for the murder came after a three-week trial in July 2023. Additionally, O’Pray was found guilty of intentionally wounding Harvey Reilly, who was 17 years old at the time, during the same altercation. The jury learned that O’Pray had armed himself with a lock knife, which he used to stab Burton in the neck.
