SUMMARY
- Mike Tyson has uploaded several training videos since his fight against Jake Paul was announced.
- Colby Covington does not believe the videos are recent.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson has not received great reviews from the combat sports world and Colby Covington is the latest to opine. 27-year-old Jake Paul will take on 57-year-old Mike Tyson (58 on fight day) on July 20, 2024. The announcement, which was done over a week ago, was not received well. Fans were not excited about Jake facing someone of that age.
However, they are obviously fighting for the money and the fight needs to be promoted. Recently, Mike Tyson’s camp released footage of Tyson’s training. The former heavyweight champion is looking in phenomenal shape in that footage. He is agile in his movement and his punch strength looks magnificent. Covington, on the other hand, does not feel the footage is recent.
“That footage is not live footage…Mike Tyson’s camp, they had that footage filmed from a couple [of] years ago so that’s not like the current Mike Tyson.”

During an episode of the SOSCAST, he said, “That footage is not live footage, I could promise you that. Mike Tyson’s camp, they had that footage filmed from a couple [of] years ago so that’s not like the current Mike Tyson. I was actually on a flight with him a couple [of] weeks ago, we were flying to Vegas together, sweetest guy in the world… But he doesn’t look like that right now and that’s definitely not how he’s hitting pads. That’s from years prior.”

Since the fight was announced 10 days ago on March 7, 2024, Tyson has uploaded multiple training videos. In each video, he is getting better with his intensity and movement. Fans are surprised by Tyson’s improvement after he suffered from illnesses that caused him to walk with a cane and also left him in a wheelchair.
Colby Covington claims the fight is rigged if Jake Paul does not pull off a two-minute KO win
Colby Covington made serious accusations against the Paul brothers during the podcast. The UFC welterweight fighter claimed Jake and Logan consume steroids and are “lab projects”. He said Jake would finish Tyson within the first two minutes and if he does not then it is just a ruse to make it look like the fight is competitive.
Covington said, “I think it’s going to end bad. I think, you know, Jake’s going to probably knock him out within the first 2 minutes and if he doesn’t then it’ll be because he’s carrying him and he’s trying to make the freak show look like it’s a competitive fight. But, I hate the fight.”

Further, Covington was disappointed by the fact that this would “take away from Tyson’s legacy”. The Baddest Man On The Planet is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers the sport has seen. According to Covington, it will be disrespectful if a “YouTuber” beats him.
Colby Covington fears for Mike Tyson as the 57-year-old plans on competing again
Colby Covington also opened up about the fears of Tyson competing again. He explained how slow Tyson and Roy Jones Jr looked in their bout in 2020. The fighters received special permissions from California’s boxing commission which helped them leave the ring unscathed. It is unknown how Texas’ boxing commission looks over the Tyson vs. Paul fight. Covington hopes for Tyson to leave the ring injury-free.
“I don’t think it’s safe; I think it’s dangerous at that age. Your heart might explode; you know he gets in the head; he might have a brain bleed.”

He said, “You know, he shouldn’t be fighting anymore. I don’t think it’s safe. I think it’s dangerous. At that age, your heart might explode, you know, he gets hit in the head, he might have a brain bleed… That’s what I hope for I hope that Mike Tyson makes it through injury-free and doesn’t get hurt.”
Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul will stream on Netflix on July 20, 2024. Paul announced that Netflix subscribers will not have to pay any additional fee to watch the fight. The undercard of the fight is yet to be decided. The event will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
