SUMMARY
- Braun Strowman recently appeared for an interview on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast.
- During the interview, Braun Strowman shared the backstory behind defeating Goldberg at WrestleMania 36.
Braun Strowman is without a doubt one of the strongest men in the professional wrestling world, not just within WWE. From starting his career as a member of The Wyatt Family to establishing himself as a singles star, Braun has achieved a lot in his career, but probably the biggest moment of his stint in the Triple H-led promotion is his WrestleMania 36 victory.
During the 2020 edition of the mega event, Braun defeated Goldberg to win the Universal Championship, thus winning his first world title. Moreover, the match was extra special for him because he became the first man to squash Goldberg, and he recently shared the backstory behind this achievement.
The Monster Among Men did so during his appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, as they discussed a variety of things from his career. While talking about them all, Braun Strowman also reflected on defeating Bill Goldberg for the prestigious WWE Universal Title at The Grandest Stage of Them All.
When asked if he ever imagined about winning the prestigious title at such a grand stage, the 6-foot-8 replied, “In my mind, I didn’t know how long it would take, but I knew it was gonna happen. I’ve been very good at manifesting things in my life because I just grew up with nothing. So I had to work for everything.”
“I’m the one person to ever squash Bill Goldberg,” the in-ring performer added while talking about his victory at The Showcase of the Immortals. Looking at all these comments, it’s safe to say that everything about defeating Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 is still fresh in the former Universal Champion’s mind.
Braun Strowman was handpicked by Goldberg for WrestleMania 36
Braun Strowman secured a memorable win at WrestleMania 36, but it must be noted that Strowman wasn’t even going to be in the match against Goldberg. Roman Reigns was the one who was going to challenge the veteran for the Universal Championship, but he pulled out after the COVID outbreak.
As Roman went out of the equation, Bill Goldberg handpicked Braun for a match at The Show of Shows. The reason why the WWE legend did so was because he wanted to pass the torch to someone from the roster, and Strowman felt like a deserving guy to the wrestling legend.
Braun also talked about it and said, “It meant the world because I like I said, as a kid growing up idolizing him to becoming friends with him you know. So he picked me to do that and do the honors and pass that torch.” It’s clear from his comments that Braun was moved by Bill’s kind gesture of giving his the big opportunity.
Braun Strowman was pissed off with Vince McMahon before WrestleMania 36
While the match against Goldberg gave Braun his first World Championship win in WWE, the 40-year-old wasn’t too happy with the lead-up to that encounter. In fact, Braun Strowman was pissed off with Vince McMahon before WrestleMania 36. Sharing the reason behind it, he revealed that it was due to the documentary that was made by the company.
Braun said, “I start off talking at the beginning of it, it shows the full circle where at one point, we were getting close for me to be the champion, but something happened and Vince had changed his mind on it, and the show comes to this interview after I had this meeting with him and I was pissed off about it.” (Via: Fightful)
The heavyweight was disappointed by being displayed as if it wasn’t his time to be the champion. But as all this led him to defeat Goldberg for the Universal Championship, that too at The Grandest Stage of Them All, it was worth it. It was evident from Strowman’s comments that he’s still proud of the WrestleMania win.
As the fan-favorite star has recently made his return to the Stamford-based promotion after a long absence, it’ll be interesting to see what’s next for him. With rumors about Wyatt 6 in WWE’s plans, it remains to be seen if Braun Strowman will have any involvement with it or not. Whatever happens, it’s sure that Braun will now probably be a regular feature on TV on a weekly basis.
