Conor McGregor

Former two division champion, Conor McGregor shocked the MMA world follwing UFC 250’s conclusion by announcing retirement from MMA. Conor McGregor made his much anticipated return early this year at the welterweight division, where he picked up a 40 second KO victory over Donald Cerrone. McGregor had hinted at fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov in a rematch, and had shown a desire to face Justin Gaethje in the near future. Early last week, McGregor also accepted a fight with Anderson Silva. The news comes with a shocking development which has left fans wondering about what Mcgregor had said soon after his victory at UFC 246.

Soon after UFC 250 finished, Conor McGregor took to social media, and announced his retirement from the sport. McGregor wrote, “Hey guys, I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been” Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post on of my World title wins. Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Conor McGregor announces retirement

It should be noted that this is not the first time Conor McGregor has announced his retirement on social media. McGregor announced retirement after his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov as well. In 2016, McGregor announced to the fans that he has decided to retire young, only to return later. He has announced his retirement numerous times in the past, so there’s a chance that the former dual champion might make a return at a later date. Fans reacted to the news, bringing up McGregor’s earlier tweets where he called retirement from the sport.

While this is not the first time Conor McGregor has said that, one cannot out rightly ignore McGregor’s post, where he thanked his fans, and announced his retirement from the sport. McGregor was touted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a rematch inside the boxing ring, with a lot of interesting match-ups ahead of him. However, it seems like McGregor has decided against the idea of ever competing inside the octagon again. It’s difficult to predict where McGregor will go from here, but we could well be looking at McGregor transition into the boxing ring. McGregor joins Henry Cejudo in the list of fighters who have called retirement in the recent past.
