That said, standing in front of him will be Julio César Chávez Jr. who is the son of former three-division world champion of boxing, Julio César Chávez. Previously, ‘El hijo de la leyenda’ held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012. However, some would suggest that the highlight of his 61-fight career would be his unanimous decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in May 2017.
Since then, Julio has been 3-3 in his last six fights, losing to Anderson Silva in 2021 as well. On the other hand, Darren Till was on a 3-fight losing skid before his UFC exit. Notably, the fight will be a six, three-minute round contest at 190 lbs. Throughout his MMA career, Till has fought at 170 and 185 lbs, whilst Julio Cesar has competed at 182 lbs and 175 lbs in recent times.
Darren Till shares his excitement and motivation ahead of his boxing debut
Prior to the announcement on Wednesday morning, Darren Till had teased his upcoming boxing debut. Whilst the recent buzz around him was regarding a fight with Mike Perry, it is now evident why he chose to forego that fight for now. That said, the fighter had also spoken about his motivations in returning to action and also what he has been up to since his UFC exit.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Darren Till stated:
“I haven’t been sitting on my arse for 15 months. I’ve really really been working hard, and like I’m struggling to find sparring partners in the area because I’m doing that well.
I’m not gonna say anything other than that, but people when they see me and they see this next fight, and they see what I’m gonna do, and who it’s gonna be against and how I’m gonna win, the fashion I’m gonna a win in, everyone’s gonna go, ‘What the f**k! Till hasn’t been sat on his arse on the sidelines.
“I’m very very motivated Ariel, I really am. And it’s in a sport that I love, like striking, fighting, and obviously, the sport of boxing has been growing in the professional sense and the influencer sense.”
All things considered, Darren Till is keen to make a name for himself in boxing. After a few good wins under his belt, and having made a substantial amount of money, Till is certain that he will be able to return to the UFC and even win a title in the near future. After all, as the fighter has suggested in the past, he chose to part ways with the organization, under special obligations rather than them having fired him.
