The UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya is going to defend his title against Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC 263 as per sources.
Israel Adesanya fought Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 and it seems he wants a quick turnaround after a failed attempt to win the UFC light heavyweight title. Israel Adesanya is one of the most active champions in UFC and it was expected that he would fight atleast one more time in 2021.
However, the fans did not expect the opponent to be Marvin Vettori. Vettori is on an impressive win streak in the middleweight division, but Robert Whittaker deserves the title shot without any questions.
But, it has to be considered that Whittaker fought Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC Vegas 24. And it’s reported that he has turned down the offer to fight again on June 12. As per reports, Whittaker believes less than two months is too quick for him after the fight against Gastelum.
Marvin Vettori who also fought at UFC Vegas 23, however, is hungry for an opportunity to fight Israel Adesanya again. This news first appeared on BJPenn.com
Marvin Vettori is a serious threat to Israel Adesanya
Marvin Vettori has been campaigning for a title shot against Adesanay for a long time now. Though he has not fought anyone from the top 5 he has looked impressive in his last few fights since the loss to Adesanya. So there is an intriguing storyline for a Vettori vs Adesanya matchup.
Besides that, Marvin Vettori does poise some legit threats to Adesanya’s throne. We just witnessed Adesanya getting dominated on the ground by Jan Blachowicz. And Marvin Vettori is one of the best grapplers in the division if not the best grappler and is capable of implementing a similar game plan.
But, no fighter has been able to control Adesanya on the ground so far. Whether Marvin Vettori, who had a close fight against Adesanya, can stop the winning streak of Adesanya is what intrigues the fans.
As far as, Robert Whittaker is concerned he must fight for the title whenever he makes his return. He has beaten three top contenders in impressive fashion since losing the title. And no other middleweight is more deserving of a title shot more than Robert Whittaker at the moment.
