Soccer giants Brazil have been named as the hosts for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup earlier today. The 2023 Women’s World Cup concluded last year which was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The Spanish women’s national team earned bragging rights last year, as they defeated England 1-0 to win their first Women’s World Cup title.
As per recent reports, FIFA has handed the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup to Brazil. FIFA held a meeting in Bangkok on Friday where the member nations took part in the voting procedure. There were 119 votes in favor of Brazil, while 78 votes went against them. Besides Brazil, there was a joint hosting bid from Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

There were also bids from South Africa and a joint bid from the United States of America and Mexico. However, those bids were later withdrawn, with the United States and Mexico stating that they would bid for the hosting rights of the 2031 Women’s World Cup. With Brazil winning the bid, they became the first South American nation to host a Women’s World Cup. Some of the previous host nations for the Women’s World Cup include Sweden, the United States, Germany, Canada, France, and China.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino posted a congratulatory message for Brazil, saying, “Congratulations to Brazil. We will have the best World Cup in Brazil. Many thanks as well to the BNG bid, who have been fantastic.” According to reports, Brazil’s bid was selected by FIFA due to them scoring high on technical aspects like stadiums, accommodations, fan zones, and transport.
Brazil has hosted two Men’s FIFA World Cups in 1950 and 2014
While Brazil will become the first South American nation to host a Women’s World Cup, they have hosted two editions of the Men’s World Cup. The very first edition that Brazil hosted was way back in 1950, which was the fourth edition of the tournament.
After Uruguay hosted the first edition of the FIFA World Cup way back in 1930, Brazil became the second South American country to host soccer’s grandest international tournament. However, the happiness at this achievement was short-lived as Brazil heartbreakingly lost 2-1 to Uruguay in the final.

Brazil got a second shot at hosting the Men’s World Cup 64 years later when they hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It was a similar story to 1950, as it ended in heartbreak for the host nations even before they got to the final. The Brazilians were humiliated 7-1 by Germany, the eventual champions that year, in the semifinals as Brazil was handed one of the worst and most painful defeats in their history.
