UFC President Dana White made a guest appearance at the recently concluded podcast of athlete NFT& Social Token platform Blockasset. Along with Dana White, featured guests like AJ Vaynerchuk and UFC DWCS commentator Lauro Sanko in the podcast.
During this conversation, Dana was asked about the likelihood of promoting boxing in the near future. The UFC President completely ruled out any possibilities and thwarted this idea and explained his reason behind not co-promoting a boxing fight.
“Every time I try to think about doing something with boxing, I go, ‘Why would I want to do this to myself?’ You know what I mean? Why would I even want to dive into this nightmare? That’s why I haven’t really done anything. It’s a broken business that is an absolute nightmare to try to fix.”
Dana White is a big fan of boxing and he enjoys watching the sport. Surprisingly, during the co-main event bout between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza, the UFC President appeared to watch Canelo Alvarez take on Dmitry Bivol at the cageside. However, looking at his recent comments at Blockasset, Dana will not try to promote boxing for a long time.
Why is UFC President Dana White not interested in co-proming a boxing fight?
Looking back at the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather spectacle, it is quite surprising that Dana White allowed that crossover to take place. Considering his strong stance against co-promoting boxing now. However, there is a big reason behind the UFC President being reluctant to promote the sport.
In 2019, Dana tried to enter boxing with the intention to restructure the model. He tried to kick off things by attempting to launch Zuffa boxing. As per a report from Mike Coppinger, the UFC President had also hired a person to run the new division.
However, the launch was delayed and White later revealed the reason why he didn’t go forward with Zuffa boxing. “The reason you’ve never seen me do anything is because that’s how screwed up and broken it is. That’s what a mess it is. Yeah, I’m not doing anything anytime soon.”
Dana is not a big fan of the pay structure in boxing and has expressed his resentment regarding this topic on several occasions. Although with major UFC superstars like Francis Ngannou and many others leaning toward boxing for a big pay, the UFC President needs to find a solution to keep his big stars in the promotion.
