The UFC president Dana White, shares his thoughts on Jon Jones in his recent interview. A lot of questions are being raised with respect to Jone’s future in the UFC and the heavyweight division.
White says he hasn’t been in touch with Jones for a long time as he is not someone who stays in touch with the fighters. “ Jones? I don’t even remember. A long time ago, we sent some texts back and forth. I am not in touch with the fighters on a regular basis, the match makers talk to them”, says Dana.
The UFC president was further questioned about the heavyweight title fight. White praises the heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou for executing his plans so well to retain his title. This matchup was a very anticipating one for the fans owing to the rivalry Ngannou and his rival Ciryl Gane have. Ngannou displayed a dominating performance as he shocked the MMA world with his wrestling to defend his belt. Gane was Ngannou’s toughest opponent so far, to no avail.
However, in Dana’s opinion, this fight wasn’t the kind of fight to be talked about for years. He says “ This wasn’t the fight that will be talked about for years. It wasn’t as I thought it was going to be. I thought there is going to be a lot of stand-up. It was a brilliant game plan by Francis to do what he did.
Even though the fight according to White, wasn’t going to be the fight of the year, the MMA fans were not disappointed with the event. The history between the two fighters added to the hype. More than just the fighters, the disagreements between the UFC and Francis Ngannou added the element of suspense to the match-up.
