The NBA has a strong bond with music and rappers. Migos’ Takeoff was one such rapper who was closely associated with many NBA stars. He passed away earlier this year, which left Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young in disbelief as well. Similarly, another rapper to be famous in the NBA would be NLE Choppa. The American rapper has been seen with NBA personalities over the years.
NLE Choppa, also known as Bryson Lashun Potts grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. The Parkway Village, a neighborhood in the city, was where stayed with his parents. Choppa did his high school education at Cordova High School during this time. For those who are wondering, this was where he played basketball.
We can claim that he was a decent player during his sophomore days from the highlight clips available online. Despite having a love for the beautiful game, NLE Choppa did not pursue a career in basketball. He went on to become a rapper in 2018 after releasing the song ‘No Love Anthem’.
Who is the first rapper to walk out an NBA team?
NLE Choppa tweeted a while ago that he was the first-ever rapper to walk out an NBA team. For those who don’t know, the rapper performed while walking out with the Memphis Grizzlies players before their opening game of the 2022-23 NBA season. Ja Morant and Co. played against the New York Knicks on the night and won 115-112.

Music fans will know that Soulja Boy often claims to be the first one to perform an act. This has been the case on many occasions. However, he admitted that he wasn’t the first rapper to walk out an NBA team onto the court. Together with that, Soulja Boy also claimed that Choppa was the first one to do it, and addressed him as “Lil bro” to show some love.

NLE Choppa responded to this in a tweet as well, when he mentioned that Soulja Boy was the first rapper to admit that he wasn’t the first rapper to get to an achievement. He isn’t the only rapper to be associated with the Grizzlies, however. Their star player Ja is also a fan of NBA YoungBoy, as well as Danny Green who admitted the rapper was the number one in Memphis.
