SUMMARY
- The Timberwolves acquired Rob Dillingham via trade involving the Spurs.
- Draymond Green believes the 8th overall pick is the perfect partner for Anthony Edwards.
The Minnesota Timberwolves had an outstanding run during the playoffs this past season. Lately, this team has been performing significantly well making the playoffs thrice in a row now. However, the Wolves only managed to make a deep postseason run this year going all the way up to the Western Conference Finals and losing to the Dallas Mavericks in five games.
In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Timberwolves were involved in a last-minute trade with the San Antonio Spurs through which they received Rob Dillingham who was drafted at the eighth slot. The Wolves also kept their 27th pick in the draft to select Terrence Shannon Jr., a versatile forward with great defensive instincts.
Draymond Green believes the NBA should fear Rob Dillingham and Anthony Edwards’ pairing
According to Draymond Green, the Timberwolves were the biggest winners of this year’s NBA Draft. Dillingham will be great alongside a dominant Anthony Edwards, and they are projected to be the team’s main backcourt for the next decade or so. Green said, “The reason the Minnesota Timberwolves won the draft is because they drafted their point guard of the future in Rob Dillingham.”
He added, “Some of those teams at the top of the draft were afraid of [Dillingham] because he’s got swag, he’s got game. And they don’t know if his game is going to fit into their systems that don’t work and get them fired. When you can just get a really good player who can score the basketball… figure out how the system works for him and then all of a sudden the franchise is in territory that it’s never been in before.”
Green specifically highlighted Dillingham’s ability to score the ball at a high level which will complement the defensively heavy roster the Wolves already have. Dillingham averaged a consistent 15.2 points per game in one year of playing in college. The 19-year-old is certainly going to be a great fit bringing them an offensive boost.
Rob Dillingham is convinced he can help the Timberwolves go the distance
Based on what we witnessed during the playoffs, the Timberwolves seemed like they were only one piece away from becoming the ultimate threat in the NBA, just like the reigning champions. Rob Dillingham firmly believes that he might be their X-factor starting next season.
“They just need one more piece. I feel like they were honestly good this year and they could’ve won it this year. Adding me is just a plus to the team.” 🔥@TaylorRooks with Rob Dillingham and how he fits right in with the Timberwolves pic.twitter.com/wOze6aLtO6

After being drafted, Rob told ESPN’s Malika Andrews, “They just need one more piece, and I feel like they were honestly good this year, and they could have won it this year. So adding me is just a plus to the team, and whatever it does, it does.” His confidence is certainly something that will radiate within the locker room especially while having Anthony Edwards on his side as a young leader.
