SUMMARY
- Dustin Poirier will serve as a desk analyst for UFC 303's post-fight show.
- He will be joined by Chael Sonnen and Teddy Atlas.
It’s been a few weeks since fight fans witnessed what may have been Dustin Poirier’s last appearance in the octagon, and unfortunately, the matchup against Islam Makhachev didn’t go as planned. This was possibly Islam’s toughest fight yet since becoming champion, especially with the history that Poirier carries as a fighter in the UFC.

Since then, Poirier has been taking some time off to be with his family vacationing in Cabo. But he’s also set to make an appearance in the upcoming UFC 303 event scheduled to take place in Las Vegas. This fight card will be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between Jiri Prochazka and the champion himself, Alex Pereira.
Dustin Poirier to join Chael Sonnen and Teddy Atlas as analyst for UFC 303
UFC 303 will be the seventh numbers event conducted this year by the esteemed promotion and there have already been a couple of incredible fights this year. This weekend’s fight card was initially supposed to be headlined by two of Dustin Poirier’s former opponents, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. Unfortunately, McGregor pulled out after fracturing his toe while training.

But the UFC has been taking measures to keep the fight card interesting. What’s going to have fans stoked is that Dustin will be returning to serve as a desk analyst on the post-fight show. He will be joined by former UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen and famed fight commentator Teddy Atlas. As always, Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik will serve as play-by-play commentators during the event. Megan Olivi will be the reporter on duty while Bruce Buffer works his magic inside the octagon.
What does the future hold for El Diamante in the UFC?
Before the Makhachev fight, Dustin Poirier revealed that he planned on possibly retiring after the fight. He later stated that he had planned to put down his gloves had he won against Islam. But the decision over his retirement still remains uncertain. During an interview with MMA Hour, Poirier said, “I can’t say I’ll never fight again, but I just don’t know the reason. What am I going to fight for? To get into a battle?”
He added, “I’m leaning towards being done. For sure. Especially with getting the title fight, how many more times would I need to fight to put myself back in position to fight for the world title? I don’t know.” Poirier doesn’t intend on fighting other ranked opponents before earning another title shot. It’s solely due to his age and the number of opportunities he’s already had. Needless to say, Poirier has a special place in the UFC’s history books.
