Dustin Poirier has once again clarified his situation regarding the ongoing feud with Nate Diaz. The former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier appeared alongside Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and cleared the air on the status of his potential fight with the Stockton Slugger Nate Diaz.
“Old Nathaniel, he said something on fight week, I saw a lot of people saying that I called this. We are fighters, this is what we do. And I am not trying to set up a round-robin here between me, Conor, and Nate. Running it between each other, over and over and over again. They are great fights, we shouldn’t do that.”
.@DustinPoirier says “old Nathaniel” Diaz is selling “wolf tickets” over their cancelled fight from 2018:
“He won’t tell the true story of how the fight fell apart. … We’ve got to fight at some point.”

Dustin Poirier has publicly shown his interest in fighting Nate Diaz. The history between the two goes back to UFC 230, where Nate Diaz was set to make his MMA return against Dustin Poirier in the co-main event. However, the fight was pulled out of the card, reasons for which continues to be a blur. Both the fighters have traded barbs at each other in the past.
Can Dustin Poirier beat Nate Diaz?
Dustin Poirier has evidently showed that he is arguably the most credible boxer in the division. With wins over some of the most notable mixed martial artist, he has proved just how good he is. Nate Diaz is no different. Both the fighters rely on their incredible durability that has made them last this long among the elites.
Dustin Poirier is a combination puncher, and relies on his volume to tear down his opponents. However, the power he has displayed in his last few fights has gone on to say a different story. Dustin Poirier is evolving, and he has a solid right hand that can the knock the lights out of many fighters. But, of course, Nate Diaz can take a shot!
It’s an exciting match-up, and can go in the favor of any fighter. It should boil down to the cardio both the fighters keep throughout the five rounds of the fight, considering fight goes the distance. If it does, history has told us, Nate Diaz can hit a one-two combination just when he needs them the most. Regardless, Dustin Poirier is the better, and more skilled fighter who knows how to win rounds when necessary, or knock them out when opportunity arises.
