After dominating the National Football League (NFL) for 22 years and counting, Tom Brady has decided to make his presence felt in the entertainment industry as well. The new movie, “80 for Brady” marks Tom Brady’s official entry into Hollywood.
Being the face of the NFL for almost the entirety of his career, Tom Brady is not shy of the lights and neither is he oblivious to being the center of attention. However, starring as one of the main characters is an accomplishment not many professional athletes can claim. The closest one is Kobe Bryant, who managed to win an Oscar for his animated short film ‘Dear Basketball’.
The upcoming American sports comedy film 80 for Brady is directed by Kyle Marvin, written by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern, and produced by Tom Brady. Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, Sally Field, and Brady lead the ensemble cast.
Paramount Pictures will release the film in the United States on February 3, 2023. The film follows four elderly female friends who are longtime New England Patriots fans as they travel to Houston to see their hero Tom Brady and the New England Patriots play in Super Bowl LI (2017).
Jane Fonda’s obsession with Tom Brady
Legendary actress and activist Jane Fonda, during the press tour for the movie, opened up about her longtime obsession with Tom Brady. The actress admitted to being “completely starstruck” while working with the veteran quarterback.
“He was kind and humble, which is difficult to believe given how brilliant he is at what he does, but it’s true. He was also sweet and polite,” Fonda exclaimed.
“When he walked into my trailer, my knees actually buckled. That level of skill astounds me. When someone is the best in the world at something, you must honor and respect them. I was completely taken aback,” said the actress while in conversation with the Hollywood Reporter (THR).
Lily Tomlin, one of the four lead actors, added that Brady, 45, was “a good actor” and “very personable and unassuming,” while Field added that he is “clearly a performer,” during their interview with THR.
During a previous interview with the outlet, Tom Brady returned the compliments.
“We discovered the most incredible actresses,” Brady said at the time. “Sally, Lily, Jane, and Rita. They brought everything to life. At the end of the day, it was amazing to watch them act and perform.”
The entirety of the nation, and to an extent the world, are eagerly waiting for what is sure to be an entertaining movie about the Greatest Football player to ever play in the National Football League. However, movie critics wait with apprehension, and rightfully so, since the track record for these kinds of movies isn’t particularly impressive.
Although Tom Brady has dominated and excelled in the NFL since the start of the millennium, we’re yet to see if the star Quarterback can shine on the silver screen or not. With his NFL career slowly coming to an end, fans may see Brady branch out to do more acting roles in the future.
