Rockstar Games has added an important and significant feature to its acclaimed titles, Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmares. The games can now be played with 60 FPS Backward Compatibility on PS5. Strangely, the developer chose to introduce the features very quietly through a patch, just ahead of the rumored GTA 6 announcement.
Although fans expected some groundbreaking changes from the game when it was released, but it didn’t really happen. Nonetheless, it still provided a great chance for players to dive into its excellent story and all of the Undead Nightmare content.
In spite of having so much content at hand, several players were particularly hesitant to explore it since until launch, Red Dead Redemption ran at 30FPS only across PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch, disappointing many fans of the 2010 game. However, gone are those days as the latest patch brings Red Dead Redemption 60 FPS mode to life.
60FPS compatibility for Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmares comes to PS5
Rockstar launched the much-awaited Patch 1.03, which is just a few hundred MB. The patch adds a 60FPS toggle to Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 5. The 60FPS port had already launched on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in August, and now, it will be available to play on PS5 too through backward compatibility.
The game and the developers had received a lot of backlash for its port back when it launched However, with the new update sorting the issue it is being welcomed with open arms. At launch, fans were upset about the bare improvements to the game’s performance and the $50 price point. This was specifically since the port did not include multiplayer or a PC release.
During an interview with IGN in August this year, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, justified the high price of Red Dead Redemption saying, “That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it.”
Take-Two’s EVP of Finance, Hannah Sage, had also highlighted that the port was not just for the Red Dead base game but also for Undead Nightmare. They were asked if the Undead Nightmare content was the reason for its $50 price, the CEO stated that the add-on “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it’s a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers”.
Interestingly, a massive Xbox leak last month revealed that the next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 was in the works. Microsoft’s documents were leaked during its trial against FTC, which included all the future projects of Microsoft and Xbox.
