Call of Duty’s annual 2023 game, Modern Warfare 3, is finally out. The game hit the shelves on November 10, 2023. Notably, the latest entry in Activision’s Call of Duty franchise was made in half the time of previous installments.
Although there was much anticipation and excitement about the game, unfortunately, it did not sustain post-release. The game faced a host of bad reviews for its storyline and other factors. Some experts also believe that Activision’s hurry in the release has led to a half-baked game, which is obviously not as good as it could be.
The game has received a rating of just 5/10 on Steam. Similarly, the user rating for the game on Metacritic is as low as 1.7, which happens to be the lowest score for any mainstream Call of Duty game to date.
Sledgehammer Games comments on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 reviews
The developers recently released a statement that may be an attempt to justify the poor rating that the game has received. The statement from Aaron Halon, studio head of Sledgehammer Games, the developer of the game, read, “We’re incredibly proud of Modern Warfare III – both the full game experience at launch and the upcoming year of content we have planned for the community.”
He added, “On behalf of the extremely talented team across Sledgehammer Games and our partner studios with whom we’ve collaborated on development, this has been a labor of love to lead the first ever back-to-back sequel in Call of Duty. We cannot wait to see our community’s reaction to all that the entire game has to offer across Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.”
In the statement, Aaron further went on to say that from the start of development, they have all been laser-focused on making the next groundbreaking Call of Duty game. He says they heard their fans loud and clear about their desire to stay and play together for longer within the same series even before they wrapped up the previous game.
He believes that listening to the fans, they have delivered just that. “The first true sequel in franchise history,” he says. He adds that the fans’ demands were the reason why the studious decided to add features like Carry Forward for the first time to honor the investment that the players have made in the Modern Warfare series.
He concluded by saying that they were proud to be the team to lead the way on Modern Warfare III and that they have worked hard to deliver on this vision. Aaron shared that the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 project had been years in the making.
Before concluding the note with, “This is our game, and we cannot wait to play it online with all of you,” he subtly addressed the critiques. He indirectly addressed the bad reviews, saying that anything said to the contrary of what he stated is simply not true. This includes the fact that reports suggest the game was made in half the time, while he claims that it was long in the making.
