Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) players will know the importance of bots. They will also know how bots had one of the worst reputations in the game. With the launch of Counter Strike 2 (CS2), Valve, the developer has thankfully addressed the issue. Among the various things that have improved, bots are one without affecting their ease.
The bots are still very easy to beat, thus not providing much worthwhile practice when playing against them. However, CS2 lets players adjust the difficulty level of these bots, which in turn can add some challenges while playing them.
So players who are tired of having to play against super weak bots need not worry any longer. CS2 offers two ways of changing the bot difficulty. The first one can be done before the match starts, by choosing the the bot difficulty option. The second method is doing it while in a match with bots by entering certain commands.

How to change Bot Difficulty in Counter Strike 2?
As mentioned above there are two ways in which players can change the bot difficulty level.
Method 1: Selecting the Bot Difficulty Before the Match
The first method is adjusting and selecting the bot difficulty in Counter Strike 2 before starting the match. This a simpler method of adjusting bot difficulty. Here’s how it can be done:
- Players must first launch CS2 and visit the main menu of the game.
- CS2 has a variety of game modes. In order to play against bots with adjustable difficulty, players must select the mode that allows them to play with bots
- Before starting the match, there will be an option titled ‘bot difficulty’ on the screen.
- Players must click on the “Bot Difficulty” option, which will reveal a list of available difficulty levels.
- Once the player has selected the desired bot difficulty, they must return to the main menu and start the match.
- Once the match begins, all bots that spawn will spawn in with the difficulty set by the player.
Because of its simplicity and convenience of changing the bot’s difficulties, this is the most recommended method.
Method 2: Using the bot_difficulty Console Command
Alternatively, the second method is using console commands after you have started the match. This method can come in handy when players accidentally start a match or realize too late that the bot difficulty level has not been changed.
To execute this method players need to enable the developer console in CS2 as a prerequisite. This can be enabled by visiting the game’s settings menu, selecting “Game,” and making sure the “Enable Developer Console” option is set to “Yes.” Once the developer console is enabled players need to start a match with bots added.
After the match has loaded players need to open the developer console whenever they wish to change the bot difficulty. To open the developer console, the “~” button on the keyboard must be clicked. In the developer console, players need to type in the text “bot_difficulty” followed by the number or text assigned for the difficulty they want to set, which are as follows:.
- 0 or easy: Easy difficulty.
- 1 or normal: Normal difficulty.
- 2 or hard: Hard difficulty.
- 3 or expert: Expert difficulty.
For example, if a player wants to change the bot difficulty to hard, they must type “bot_difficulty 2” or “bot_difficulty hard”. After typing the console command players must press the enter key to apply the command and the difficulty of all the bots will change.
