Rockstar Games is having a tough time. Although the last month of the year started on a high note with the grand launch of the GTA 6 trailer, Christmas was a rather unfortunate one for the studio.
The development studio has been one of the prime targets for leaks and hacks in the past year. First, the early footage of GTA 6 leaked ahead of its official time forcing Rockstar to launch the trailer before time. However, it seems that it was just a slight hint of what was coming next in terms of leaks compared to what was leaked next.
GTA 5 source code leaked
On Christmas Eve, a group of hackers who had access to Rockstar’s data leaked the GTA source code on a Telegram channel. The group ‘Lapsu$’ had reportedly hacked into Rockstar Games’ system back in September 2022. At that time they only leaked as many as 90 videos from GTA 6.
However, they have released the source code which includes a lot of sensitive data about the company, which is now available for everyone to see. The source code seems to be just a part of the larger files that the hacker group holds.
The source code included the future projects of Rockstar, which were eventually canceled. These involve Bully 2, and GTA Tokyo. The leaks also revealed around eight DLCs to GTA 5, which were reportedly canceled for GTA Online. On Christmas Eve, a user uploaded the source code of GTA 5 which was about 4.5 GB on a Telegram channel.
200 GB of GTA 5 source code to be leaked
Some private groups have been circulating data of what seems to be the full source code, including models and assets, of GTA 5. That being said, the group has access to 200 GB of data. A user on X has recently claimed that the entire data will soon be leaked. “The full 200GB file is about to get released of which it may include GTA 6 assets,” the user wrote.

The yet-to-be-released data could potentially include some files that point to potential Bully 2 and GTA 6 mentions. Reports suggest that the remaining data even includes lists of emails and full names of employees at Rockstar Games within the leaked files.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games has already begun taking down links to the downloads. Nonetheless, now that the files have already been leaked it is rapidly gaining attraction and spreading like wildfire.
