One of the biggest video game franchises, Grand Theft Auto is set to release its latest game after over a decade. Recent reports have stated that GTA 6 is set to come out late next year or early 2025. Fans have eagerly waited for GTA 6 as GTA V was released in 2013.
The budget of GTA 6, however, might just justify the long wait. According to a report from Dexerto, GTA 6 has a budget of over $1 billion. It will easily become the most expensive game ever with such a budget. As reported by Dexerto, the budget is set to be around “$1-2 billion USD.”

Other video games which reached close to this number include Star Citizen, which reportedly cost over $500 million. On the other hand, Cyberpunk 2077 cost around $175 million.
How much of an increase is the GTA 6 budget over GTA V? Let’s find out.
GTA 6 sees a significant increase in budget over GTA V
If we consider the fact that GTA 6 is going to shell out anywhere around $1-2 billion, the huge budget of GTA V seems little. Reports suggest that GTA V cost around $137.5 million USD to develop and the total costs reached over $200 million.

GTA 6 has recently come to the fore due to the release of the earnings project of publisher Take-Two Interactive. IGN pointed out the huge increase in their expected earnings. The company has set out to earn around $8 billion in the fiscal year beginning April 2024. The increase in earnings will reflect the release of “several groundbreaking titles.”
The company accumulated $5.3 billion in the previous fiscal year. And the year before that, it accumulated $3.5 billion. An increase in earnings of this size could very well be because of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
“For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success,” Take-Two wrote in its earnings report.
“In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond.”
