The leaker’s community was so active, that when Rockstar Games finally decided and announced the launch of the first trailer of the game, the trailer too ended up getting leaked. Rockstar Games had announced that they would officially release the GTA 6 trailer on December 5, 2023, at 9 AM ET. However, less than 24 hours prior the trailer was leaked, thus forcing the devs to launch the trailer ahead of the scheduled time.
Earlier Rockstar had revealed that an earlier ransomware attack by an 18-year-old hacker that leaked a lot of details of GTA 6 had cost them $5 million. One can only imagine how frustrating the leak must have been for the developers.
Did GTA 6 trailer leak affect Rockstar Games?
During a recent earnings report by Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, the CEO Strauss Zelnick for the first time publicly revealed his thoughts about the leak. Zelnick stated while the whole team was very excited when the trailer was released, the leak was disappointing.
He said, “In terms of the leak, that’s always disappointing for the team, but ultimately, I don’t think it hurt us.” Although the CEO appears very relaxed about the matter now, the team wasn’t as relaxed back when the incident happened.
In December 2023, multiple GTA 6 developers expressed their frustration about the leak. They emphasized that it was a result of several years of work, and the leak deprived them of properly commemorating this important moment. Nonetheless, they were proud of the response received later on.
Likewise, it is justified for the CEO to now say that it didn’t hurt them considering how successful the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer turned out. The GTA 6 trailer 1 set records by becoming the most-viewed video game trailer as well as the most-watched non-music video on YouTube in its first 24 hours.
GTA 6 to release in early 2025?
In other news, during the same earnings call, Take-Two Interactive confirmed that GTA 6 was very much on track for its fiscal year 2025, that is between April 2024 and March 2025. Besides, the developers have also confirmed with the trailer that the game would see a 2025 release.

Thus fans are speculating the game to released sometime in the first three months of 2025. That being said, the exact release date of Rockstar’s next big game is yet to be revealed.
Players are advised to wait for an official confirmation from Take-Two and Rockstar about the exact release date and hope that the game is not delayed.
