A video has been circulating all over the internet which has caught the attention of many players. The recently leaked video gives players a glimpse into the canceled Call of Duty project that was reportedly once being developed by the team at Neversoft.
Notably, Neversoft is the same developer who is credited for the famous video game series Tony Hawk. The latest leaked video has attracted mixed reactions from the fans.
Neversoft’s canceled Call of Duty title
The leaked footage revealed an ambitious futuristic setting for the iconic Call of Duty series. However, it diverges from its traditional roots. The former developer at Neversoft, Brian Bright, shared more details about this intriguing project.
As per Brian, the futuristic version of Call of Duty was codenamed NX1. It was started after they faced an upheaval at Infinity Ward (IW) back in 2010. The project was originally expected to fill the void created by Call of Duty: Ghosts. Notably, Call of Duty: Ghosts was eventually shelved.

Developers Neversoft, was earlier popular for the Guitar Hero series. Venturing into a new genre like Call of Duty with NX1 was indeed a bold step for the developers. Brian said, “This mission was on the moon, experimenting with low gravity, and was really about the team learning the engine.”
Brian, who was leading the multiplayer development, said that the team had completed around 2-3 campaign missions of the game as well as substantial multiplayer content before the project was eventually canceled. One of the significant multiplayer features that was introduced was the first Escort mode in the Call of Duty franchise.
Besides another leak had surfaced, which showcased plans for NX1. It featured reimagined versions of classic Call of Duty maps including “legacy Overgrown,” “legacy Crash,” “legacy Afghan,” and “legacy Terminal.” The game was also expected to introduce new maps, such as one intriguingly named “bin Laden’s compound.”
While the Call of Duty community can only speculate on what this futuristic title might have added to the series, the leaked footage offers a tantalizing glimpse into a path not taken. The revelation of NX1 adds a layer to the rich history of the Call of Duty series, showcasing the creative ideas and risks developers consider in evolving a beloved franchise.
