Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 is finally ready to hit the shelves coming Friday, October 20, 2023. Ahead of its release, the reviews of the game are out and the reviews are oozing praise for the new title. With highly positive reviews, the game proves that it is here to crush some serious records.
The first Spider-Man game from the hood of Insomniac Games proved that it could be fun to play comics as the web-slinger. It aced the feeling of providing momentum and grace inherent in the characters, combining it with the element of open-world action game. Two years later, the studio kept the wheels spinning with a smaller, yet tighter spinoff revolving around Miles Morales.
The Studio has given fans the inevitable full sequel. It not only has ‘2’ in the title, but it also gives players a pair of spider-men to play with. Although reviews suggest that Spider-Man 2 doesn’t change things up substantially, it is the kind of sequel that very tactfully builds upon the original.
Besides the side missions that could appear dull, however, the main storyline, involving a murderous Kraven the Hunter and a new take on Venom, is an exception. It firmly places the series into an emotional space. Having said that, it still retains the good old Spider-Man feels.

Spider-Man 2 has received highly positive reviews, with several reviewers suggesting that the title exceeds much beyond expectations. IGN rates the game a solid 8/10, stating, “Spider-Man 2 is a technical marvel as a whole. From the near-instant load times, the ability to pinpoint a fast-travel location and be there in a second, atmospheric lighting, and crisp reflections, all of the pieces fit into place wonderfully – aside from the very occasional NPC getting stuck where they shouldn’t.”
The reviewer further adds, “I can’t say that I noticed one dropped frame in my dozens of hours of playing. This allows Spider-Man 2 to shine in its most jaw-dropping moments – of which the main story offers many – as explosive action, sparkling electrical effects, and fittingly slimy symbiote gloop fill the screen.”
On the other hand, the game is enjoying an impressive score of 91 on Metacritic. Based on 119 reviews, the platform gives it the much acclaimed ‘Metacritic Must Play’ badge already. Notably, the game is yet to be released for the general audience and the user reviews are still to come.

IGN writes, “It’s the best-written story in the series yet (if still a bit cheesy at times), with performances worthy of the script. It’s a real triumph that it manages to cover such a wide spectrum of themes without suffering from tonal thwip-lash.”
While another publication named Laptop Mag describes it as “Insomniac Games’ greatest effort in over a decade.” They add that this title showcases Insomniac’s expertise with a compelling story and unforgettable spectacle. It adds, “It is one of the best PS5 games in the console’s growing library.”
Although it might be too early to say if Spider-Man 2 is the highest-rated Spider-Man game keeping room for user reviews given the fact that the game is yet to officially release. However, publications and game reviewers are considering it as the best game of the Spider-Man series.
