The list included some games that surprisingly made it to the list competing against the giant hits. These surprising titles include Starfield which made it to the list of the highest-grossing games on Steam.
Starfield among the top 3 highest grossing games on Steam
Starfield has managed to make it to the top 3 of the highest-grossing games. It was particularly surprising since Starfield was heavily overpowered by a day 1 Xbox Game Pass release.
Besides, the game also received a lot of underwhelming responses from the community including reviewers. In fact, the game also ended up being review-bombed. Bethesda released this space odyssey released after more than two decades in the making.
Thus when it was released, fans had high expectations from the game. While some users did find the game to be worth the hype, several others felt that it did not meet their expectations. The game ended up winning just one award at The Game Awards 2023, thus making it the center of all jokes.
On the other hand, Starfield recently won the Most Innovative Game award at the Steam Awards 2023. This again left the community in splits wondering how it even won in the category.
Top 10 highest grossing games on Steam in 2023
The list of the highest-grossing games on Steam as per the estimates from Video Game Insights was topped by Baldur’s Gate 3. The game generated $657 million in revenue in 2023. Placed second on the list was Hogwarts Legacy which had $341 million in revenue. The third title on the list was Starfield with $235 million in revenue.
Resident Evil 4 was fourth on the list with $159 million in revenue, followed by Sons of the Forest which accumulated $116 million to rank fifth. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon was sixth with $87 million.
The report also revealed that the platform generated a total of $9 billion in revenue generated through new releases in 2023. This marks the double of what it generated in 2019. Additionally, the Valve-owned was also a total of 580 million games sold.
The report also included the top 10 best-selling new releases in 2023 on Steam in terms of units sold. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy dominated this list too in the first and second spot. The third game was Lethal Company, followed by Overwatch 2 in fourth place and Sons of the Forest in fifth place. Starfield came sixth in this list while BattleBit Remastered took seventh place.
At the eighth spot was the remake of Resident Evil 4 and The Finals in ninth place. Then there is Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon at the top 10th place.
Seven of these games appeared on both the lists. Besides, it had two free-to-play games, along with five multiplayer games. Notably, four games are developed by indie teams of members 16 or less.
