Although the Haas team has tried their best to come out on top, they seem to have fallen back quite a few times. While they have found a way around each other, the relationship might not be bitter or sweet. Kevin Magnussen found himself a new teammate, Nico Hulkenberg. But with the reports of them being teammates, it turned out they were not really happy to see each other at all.
Hulkenberg started his career with Williams in 2010 in Formula 1. But in 2011, he had confirmed his services at Force India where he would stay for 2 seasons. Although he had a little move to the BMW Sauber after, he returned to Force India. After driving for the team for three years after, he took to Renault. However, he soon drove for Racing Point and Aston Martin and finally reached Haas.
Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, was already at Haas when Hulkenberg appeared. He replaced Mick Schumacher after his poor performance for the 2023 year. But with the new Haas driver in the garage, things had been pretty tense. Although they seem to have made up for their feud, they are not exactly the best of friends.
Kevin Magnussen burns bridges with Hulkenberg over race incident
Their little disagreement began in 2017 when the two were battling each other. During the race, Magnussen pushed Hulkenberg onto the grass. After this, the two were heard throwing comments at each other during the interviews. While the German called him for being an unsporting driver, Magnussen was completely aggressive towards the German.
After this adversity between the two, the relationship between them fizzled. The two had a very rocky relationship, to the point they avoided each other.
When Magnussen was asked about Hulkenberg joining Haas he completely shut down the topic. All he had to say was “No comments”. However, when Haas’s boss asked the Dane about the German joining, he was on board. According to Kevin, Nico is a great driver that Haas needed at the moment.
Soon, Nico went on to break the ice after not taking the tensions well. He told reports that he turned towards the Dane with a smile. The driver later replied back with warmness. But that did not mean all was forgotten. The two still have a pretty neutral relationship. Neither are they friends, nor enemies. But at least, Gunther finds this not bitter yet sweet relationship the key to Haas’s success.
