Felipe Massa is a Brazilian former driver in Formula 1. He drove for teams such as Ferrari, Sauber and Williams. The Brazilian has participated in 15 seasons of the F1 Championship. Throughout his 15 years, he has won 11 races and 41 podiums. He was a runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in 2008 after being only one point away from him in the standings.
However, his 2008 title now stays a controversy and Massa has taken legal action. Before going to his Williams team, Massa went back and forth with Sauber and Ferrari quite a lot. The Brazilian however, saw great results with Ferrari as well as Sauber. He also sustained a “life-threatening but stable” head injury once during his career too, after which he would continue to race for a while.
After his retirement in 2017, Massa went on to drive in Formula E in 2018. He raced for Venturi for three years of Formula E. For the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Massa could be seen driving in Formula E, until 2020, when Massa announced his retirement yet again but from Formula E. His announcement came in on the last day of the season. This meant he did not include driving for Venturi for the 2021 season.
However, throughout his career, Massa has created his own fortune. From his Formula 1 and Formula E contract to his endorsements.
Felipe Massa and his fortune
When Massa was driving for Williams, he earned himself a salary of $7 million roughly. However, his total career earnings are said to come out at a whopping $110 million. During his last year with the Williams F1 team, he was paid $5 million for a year after which he announced his retirement. According to multiple sources, Massa’s net worth is $30 million.
Except for his net worth, the Brazilian also has a huge collection of cars and assets. The driver enjoyed a fine range of cars parked in his garage. As an ex-Ferrari driver and a big fan of them, he has a range of Ferraris that he owns. Massa owns a Ferrari F40 which was built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary. In addition, he also owns a Ferrari 288 GTO and a LaFerrari Ferrari F12tdf.
A huge part of his net worth also came from his endorsements. As a successful Formula 1 driver, Massa made his image in the sport. Even though he did not win a championship, he was considered a great driver. This got a lot of eyes on him which in turn earned him some endorsements.
Some of the endorsements came from Williams, Mercedes, Sauber, and Ferrari. Some of his own teams offered him endorsements. He was also endorsed by Richard Mille, the luxury watch company. As of now, Massa is said to be taking legal actions to bring his “supposed” title win to justice. After a “Crashgate” incident in 2008, he believes a conspiracy kept him from winning.
