After winning the 2021 Championship, Max Verstappen expressed his intent to stay on the team for life. At the time, his contract was set to expire after the 2023 season. As expected, in 2022, Red Bull and Max Verstappen decided to extend their partnership for the foreseeable future. Max Verstappen currently has the longest contract among all the drivers in Formula 1.
After the 2021 season, the one driver he has been compared with the most is Lewis Hamilton. The 7-time Champion has been the top driver in Formula 1 for a long time now. He has broken a number of records and looking to break more. He is also extremely marketable and experienced.
A lot of fans may think that Lewis is getting paid more than Max because of his number of accomplishments and experience. However, Verstappen’s new contract may say otherwise.
As of 2023, it is estimated that Lewis Hamilton earns a base salary of $35 million. But that number is expected to be higher including performance bonuses, etc. Max Verstappen’s new contract on the other hand is estimated to have a base salary of $55 million. However, his bonuses and other additions are not known yet. But it is possible that he earns over $60 million after the bonuses.
How long will Max Verstappen race for Red Bull?
Most drivers on the grid do not currently have a long-term contract. The only driver to have a contract until the end of the 2028 season is Max Verstappen. Lando Norris has the second longest contract which is set to expire in 2025. All the other drivers only have a contract until the end of the 2023 or 2024 season.
Red Bull and Max Verstappen have made it clear that they are happy with each other. Max joined the Austrian constructor in 2016 and started off on a positive note. He won his first race with Red Bull at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix. At the time, the grid was dominated by the Mercedes cars. Over the years, the team has helped Max grow as a driver to bring him to that Championship level.
Thanks to the team, he is now one of the most talented drivers on the grid. He dominated the sport in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Max will be looking to win more and possibly break Lewis Hamilton’s records by the time he retires from the sport. He will also be hoping to do so with Red Bull.
