Mick Schumacher has been out of an F1 seat for almost a year now. He drove for the Haas F1 team in 2021 and 2022, but the team decided to get someone more experienced to replace him. Since then he has served as Mercedes’ reserve driver hoping to get a seat for the 2024 season.
With Mick Schumacher out of an F1 seat, there have been rumors of him taking his talents to Formula E. Mick was recently asked about these rumors to which he replied:
“I like smelly, roaring, fuel-guzzling engines. Formula E is not for me right now.”
There is no doubt that fuel-driven cars have a different feel while driving when compared to Formula E. The vibration and sound that come with starting an F1 engine is something that just gets the driver in the mood to race. Without these aspects, racing is just different.

Mick Schumacher has made his preferences clear for his career. He will continue to look for an F1 seat for 2024. As it stands, the only F1 seat available for the upcoming season is at Williams. There have been rumors that Toto Wolff is using his connections with Williams to get Mick Schumacher on the team to replace Logan Sargeant.
Logan Sargeant was one of the rookies coming into this season. With Williams, he has not been performing very well. This has put him in the hot seat as there are a number of drivers just waiting for an opportunity to get into the sport. Williams Team Principal, James Vowles has said that a decision will be made only after the season ends. They will evaluate Logan Sargeant’s performance but also if Williams has done everything possible to help Logan as well.
Is Mick Schumacher linked with Audi for the 2026 seat?
Earlier this year, there were rumors that Ralf Schumacher was trying to get Mick Schumacher into the Audi family for a seat in 2026. However, Audi has high hopes when they enter into F1. So if Mick Schumacher is looking to go to Audi, he will need to get more experience in the sport. If he is not able to drive for another year or 2 in F1, Audi might look elsewhere.
While there is only 1 seat remaining for the 2024 season, there are many more for the 2025 season. Most of the drivers’ contracts are expiring after the 2024 season. This includes the drivers at Ferrari, Alpine, Aston Martin, Williams, Haas, and Alfa Romeo. With so many empty seats available, Mick will be looking to get into one of these seats with the help of his connections.
Audi are very interested in employing a German driver when they enter F1, and think Mick Schumacher is a very good candidate.

Ralf Schumacher, former F1 driver and Mick’s uncle is currently managing Mick’s career. More importantly, Toto Wolff is also helping Mick using his connections. However, Toto might want Mick to get some experience with other teams so he is prepared to drive the Mercedes once he is ready. This could throw a spanner in the works if Mick and Ralf are planning to sign with Audi for 2026.
Audi being a German manufacturer, will want a German driver in one of their cars. Mick Schumacher is currently the only German driver who can have potential. The other German driver is Nico Hulkenberg who is way past his prime. He has also never managed to get a podium throughout his long career. Mick Schumacher is still young and can still make strides in the sport. However, he will need to get some more experience.
