SUMMARY
- Alex Albon is reportedly looking to break his Williams contract.
- 2 unnamed teams have already tried to buy Albon out of his contract.
Alex Albon has been the star driver for Williams Racing in these last 2 years. He has been able to perform consistently, which has allowed him to score some valuable points for the team.
Albon came to Williams to replace George Russell who had left the team to join Mercedes after the 2021 season. Albon was paired with Nicholas Latifi in the other car. Latifi had been racing for Williams 2 years before Albon’s arrival. Even still, Albon was able to outscore Latifi in 2022. The next year, Alex repeated the same performance with Logan Sargeant as his teammate. Despite these consistent performances, rumors state that Albon wants out of his contract.
Alex Albon wants out of Williams
The latest rumor of the paddock suggests that Alex is looking for a way out of his current contract with Williams. Back in 2022, he signed a multi-year deal with the team. The exact duration of the contract was not mentioned. However, it has been assumed that it is either until the end of 2024 or 2025.
2 teams have reportedly approached him for a possible team change in the future. While the names of the teams are not known, we can speculate that one of them could be Ferrari. There have been rumors that Ferrari is looking to place Alex Albon next to Charles Leclerc as they both have similar driving styles. However, Ferrari has denied these rumors and has said that they are happy with their current lineup with Carlos Sainz and Leclerc.

It would make sense for Albon to leave his contract after the 2024 season. For the 2025 season, there will be 14 vacant seats for the drivers to fill. There will be seats available in some of the top teams as well including Ferrari and Red Bull. This gives plenty of chances for talented drivers on the grid.
Alex Albon has more than proved himself to be a valuable driver in these last 2 years. There will be a lot of teams trying to sign him if he is available for the 2025 season. Given that a lot of teams who are performing better than Williams have vacancies for 2025, Alex will want to make himself free to keep his options open.
Aston Martin reportedly joins the battle for Alex Albon
Another rumor to come out of the paddock is that Aston Martin is looking to poach Albon from Williams. This rumor comes after the announcement of Aramco’s takeover of the Aston Martin team. A few months ago, it was announced that Aramco would be the new title partner for Aston Martin for the 2024 season. It has been reported that this new deal gives Aramco a lot of power over the driver lineup.

This change in leadership could be the beginning of the end for Lance Stroll’s career in F1. Throughout his career, Lance has only driven for a team that is being sponsored by his father. However, with Aramco taking over, Lawrence Stroll will no longer have the power to influence the driver lineup for Aston Martin. So if Lance is not able to perform consistently in 2024, he could be out of F1 for the 2025 season.
Alex Albon could replace Lance at Aston Martin. If Fernando Alonso chooses to extend his contract with the team, Albon and the Spaniard would make an impressive lineup that could challenge for consistent podiums and maybe even race wins. It will be interesting to see where Albon will end up after the 2024 season.
