Esteban Ocon backs Mick Schumacher for 2025 F1 seat
Mick Schumacher made his F1 debut with the Haas F1 team in 2021. However, he was not able to perform very well as the car was not quick enough. After the 2022 season, Haas decided to let go of Schumacher and replace him with someone more experienced.
In 2023, Mick was not able to find a seat in the F1 grid. However, he did manage to get a reserve driver role with Mercedes. he was able to use this connection to get a seat with Alpine for the WEC in 2024.
Schumacher and Ocon have remained friends for a long time now. Ocon feels that Mick still deserves a chance to prove himself in F1. As it stands, Mercedes has their seat open. Mick should be one of the candidates to fill this seat. However, as per reports, Kimi Antonelli is one of the candidates to replace Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes.
Mick could still get a seat in one of the other teams in the sport. This includes Alpine, Sauber, and Aston Martin. So we could see some moves happening before the 2025 season starts. Silly season usually gains some traction during the summer break during the season. So let’s wait and see if Mick can get back to F1.
Is Mick Schumacher a part of the Ferrari Driver Academy?
During Schumacher’s junior career, he remained a part of the Ferrari family. He was able to use some of his family’s connections to get into the Ferrari Driver Academy. He remained under the academy as he entered F1 with Haas.
However, before leaving Haas in 2022, he left the Driver Academy. This allowed him to sign a contract with Mercedes for the 2024 season. He will continue in his role as a reserve driver during the 2025 season as well. There is speculation that Mick will be driving for Audi from the 2026 season. However, he will need to get some more experience in the sport to make this happen.
