Formula 1 is inarguably one of the most cut-throat sports in the entire world, with twenty of the greatest drivers competing for the one big trophy. And to be able to keep up with such insane racing talents, one needs to deliver consistently impressive performances accompanied by strong results. Unfortunately, Sergio Perez hasn’t ticked any of the boxes this year, leaving his future hanging in balance.
Of course, Perez is quite the talent and has proven so with decent outings in both Red Bull and Racing Point/Force India. However, the 2023 F1 season has scripted an entirely different tale for the Mexican. After what was an astounding start to the season, victories dried out followed by podiums too. Despite driving the fastest car on the grid, Perez has been nowhere near his teammate Max Verstappen.
Such has been the gravity of his drop in performance in recent months. And to add to his woes, Perez also finds himself under immense pressure amidst growing competition for the hot Red Bull seat. Along with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, Red Bull has also unleashed a promising talent in Liam Lawson.
Hence, with the future at stake, one might assume that Perez is possibly under immense pressure. But, in reality, Perez is anything but fazed by his recent run of form. What’s more, the Mexican is quite certain that he could get another deal done with the Milton Keynes outfit.
Sergio Perez remains unfazed by growing F1 threats
Perez acknowledged wanting to stay with Red Bull beyond 2024 but is quite laid back, considering an entire year in hand. “We’re obviously keeping an eye to see but it’s all so hard to predict what’s going to happen,” Perez said. following the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.

“I think we’re all trying to get the best possible next contract we possibly can, where we think we’re going to be most competitive at. But I think in my case, I’ve got another year of contract so I have no rush in that regard.” By the looks of it, Perez needs to pull off something quite extraordinary to earn the attention of Christian Horner and Helmut Marko again.
By extraordinary, Perez has an underlying task for the rest of the season – save his P2 in the drivers’ standings amidst a growing threat from Lewis Hamilton. Hence, can Perez become the first Red Bull driver to complete 1-2 in the drivers’ standings?
